Basso makes good wines year in and year out. This Malbec is saturated and potent. It needs time to air out or it may be intimidatingly concentrated. Once open, look for cassis and blackberry flavors in front of a dessert-worthy finish. Tastes a touch hot despite only 13.5%ABV.
Intense ruby color. Delicate red fruit and violet aromas interact with classic Malbec spiciness. Soft and round in the mouth with balanced acidity and tannins.
The purple-colored 2007 Malbec contains 5% Shiraz in the blend. The wine spent seven months in French and American oak. It exhibits an attractive nose of black cherry with a hint of blueberry. Smooth-textured, savory, and nicely balanced, it will drink well for another four years.
Dark, with warm currant flavor, cocoa powder and Turkish coffee notes backed by a solid grip and a fleshy finish. Nice hint of sage adds dimension as well. Drink now through 2009.
